Dr. David Kriet recently traveled with a team of surgeons affiliated with Kansas City Medical Missions Foundation to Uganda. Some of the patients he treated were victims affected by a violent rebel faction known as Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). While the Ugandan government believes LRA numbers are dwindling, Dr. Kriet told the Associated Press that there are still a number of victims in need of reconstructive surgery due to the LRA’s attacks on civilian villages. Dr. Kriet says many of the surgeries performed were ear reconstructions: “The rebels commonly mutilated or amputated the ears of those who refused to obey their orders”
